Papaya (Carica Papaya L.) shoots produced with the help of shoot tip culture were rooted successfully (100%) with good root and shoot system in Murashige and Skoog medium containing indole-butyric acid Naphthaleneacetic acid produced abnormal roots and arrested shoot growth. The strength of the organic and inorganic salts, level of sucrose, physical condition of the medium and type of culture vessel influenced root initiation and growth. These results are discussed in relation to micropropagation in a commercial environment.
