Salinity induced changes in pigment composition and chlorophyllase activity of wheat

Abstract

Changes in total chlorophyll, Chl-a Chl-b and total carotenoids and chlorophyllase activity was investigated in wheat (Triticum vulgare L.) leaves under two concentrations of sodium chloride (.2% and. 4%). Salinity of the soil caused reduction in chlorophyll and carotenoids. Decrease in chlorophyll and caroteinoids content was more in. 4% salinity. Decrease in chlorophyll content under salinity is associated with higher activity of enzyme chlorophyllase.
