The effect of NaCl on growth of individual leaves of two barley cultivars (Black Local and Arivat) was studied. Increasing salt concentration caused a considerable reduction in the growth rate, while the duration of growth was not much affected. Salinity decreased the area of leaves of both cultivars by reducing the number and volume of cells. However, the adverse effect of salt was considerable on both growth processes in leaves of Arivat as compared to the local cultivar.
