Critical levels of zinc in corn (Zea mays L.) at different stages of growth

Abstract

Considerable variation exists in the critical deficiency levels of Zn and index part of corn used for plant analysis. A green-house experiment was, therefore, conducted using a Zn-deflcient soil amended with 0, 1.25, 2.5, 5, 10, 20 and 40 ppm Zn to study the critical levels of Zn in corn at three different stages of growth.

Critical Zn deficiency level was established at 15 ppm for blade 3 at 6, 8 and 10 weeks sampling periods. Leaf blade 3 is the part of the corn plant which should be sampled for chemical analysis if the current status of soil Zn is desired.
