Effect of dimethoate on total soluble nucleotide, deoxyribonuclease and ribonuclease in the Vigna sinensis (L.) seeds during germination

Abstract

The contents of total soluble nucleotides, DNase and RNase during germination of Vigna sinensis (L.) in presence of dimethoate have been studied. Total soluble nucleotide contents increase in the cotyledons progressively but decrease in the seedlings after 50 hrs of treatment upto which the levels remained constant. DNase generally increases both in cotyledon and seedling with and without dimethoate, but the rate of increase is higher in the cotyledon. Dimethoate presumably increased the activation and/or de novo synthesis of DNase in the cotyledon but it inhibited the process in the seedlings. The rate of increase of RNase activity is higher in dimethoate treated cotyledons as well as in seedlings than the controls.
