Specific minimum 2, 4-D concentrations in the medium were necessary for callus initiation from seedling roots, mature embryos (0.5 mg/l) and immature inflorescences (I mg/I) of Oryza saliva L. Plantlet regeneration was achieved at a higher frequency in embryo derived callus (65–70%) than in inflorescence (45–50%) and root callus tissues (30%), Embryo callus of Tellahamsa continued to regenerate shoots till 295 days, while other cultivars lost their ability to organise shoots much earlier. Regenerated plants Were grown to maturity with some plants exhibiting phenotypic variation.
