Abstract

Seeds of gram (Cicer arietfoum) var. C-235 were presoaked either in water or B-Nine solution and were subsequently germinated in 15 and 45 me salt solution in the dark. In addition, the seeds Were also directly germinated in the salt solution to which B-Nine was added. After 72 and 96 hours, the proline content of cotyledons and embryo axes of seedlings was determined Salinity decreased the proline content of both cotyledons and embryo axes. In contrast, the proline content of cotyledons increased and that of embryo axes decreased with presoaking. Presoaking and B-Nin esolution relieved the deleterious effects of salinity on the proline content of cotyledons.
