Studies on the seedling development and biomass depletion from the kernel in cashew cv. BPP 4 revealed that the emergence of radicle was within a week after sowing and grew rapidly from 7 to 11 days onwards. Leaves came out of the cotyledons and shell during 15th to 19 th day and expanded completely by 27th to 31st day. The second whorl of leaves completed their development by 47th to 51st day. Biomass decreased gradually from the cotyledons upto 11th day and significantly from 11th to 27th day when root, stem and leaves were in active growth, it slowed down after 27th day because the cotyledons lost more than 60 per cent of their content and the seedling became autotrophic.
