Isozymes of acid phosphatase in the leaves of nursery raised male and female clones of Populus ciliata, embodying two altitudinal clines were studied during initial, exponential and senescence growth phases. Provenance related polymorphism was observed during initial and senescence phase of growth. A transient isozyme (Rf 0.40–0.42) was discernible only in low altitudinal cline at the initial growth phase. The quantitative variation in protein and isozyme content was significant in the altitudinal clines. Variation in isozyme of acid phosphatase with regard to sex was observed upto exponential phase of growth with the female having an additional isozyme.
