Abstract

Differential response under NaCl and Na2SO4 salinity has been noted for total nitrogen and protein content. Total nitrogen and protein content was high under NaCI salinity and low under Na2SO4 salinity. These observations indicated the specific ion effect on nitrogen metabolism. NaCl salinity accelerated the activity of nitrate reductase while Na2SO4 salinity had an adverse effect on it.
