Effect of interaction between sugar and vitamins on rooting of Cucumis sativus L. hypocotyl cuttings
Abstract
Exogenous sucrose supplements, at different levels, improved root number/C. sativus hypocotyl cuttiogs raised in light or dark. Riboflavin, pyridoxine, thiamine, nicotinic acid and ascorbic acid in interaction with optimum sucrose level enhanced root initiation as well as root number/cutting at particular concentrations. Folic acid + sucrose interaction inhibited, root establishment completely. Sugar + vitamin interaction improved or inhibited rooting in dark raised hypocotyl cutting cf. sugar control depending upon the type and quantity of vitamin present. However, root quality was poor cf. light raised hypocotyl cuttings.
