Effect of shade, leaf position and leaf age on stomatal diffusion resistance in tea (Camellia sinensis L.).

Abstract

Stomatal resistance (rs) of leaves under shade and no shade conditions at different leaf positions along the shoot and canopy levels and with leaf ages starting from leaf expansion to senescence was measured in tea under field conditions. Shade, leaf position and leaf age iniuence the (rs) of leaves. It was low under full sun as compared to leaves under shade and gradually increased towards the lower portions of the canopy. Drought resistant clone TV1 exhibited higher (rs) than drought susceptible clone TV2. Expanding tender leaves exhibited higher (rs) than mature levels, which increased gradually towards leaf senescence,
