Abstract

Total protein and free amino acids were evaluated in four lcavss of day-neutral Abetmoxhus, the first and second leaf bearing dormant vegatative axillary buds and the third and fourth leaf bearing reproductive axillary buds, during six chronologically comparable stages of development. Simultaneous analyses were carried out on the flower bud at four stages of development at axil of the third leaf. The pattern of changes in the concentration of protein and free amino acids varied among the four leaves and the flower bud. The results have been discussed in relation to the differing source activity of the leaves, the sink activity of the flower bud, ageing of leaves and heteroblasty.
