An investigation on the effect of sink (pod) on the photosynthetic rate of the source i.e. axillary leaf subtending the pod (in field pea, revealed that the removal of the pod decreased the photosynthetic rate, whereas removal of the leaf enhanced) the photosynthetic rate of the pod walls. It appears that photosynthetic rate of the leaf is controlled by the sink activity.
