Abstract

The purpose of this investigation was to examine the phenomen on of heterosis in culti vars of sorghum hybrids in terms of growth and nutrients uptake. It was found that growth was greater in hybrids than their parents. Greater uptake of phosphate by the hybrids was indicative of heterosis and was related to root morphology. It is suggested that the necessary physiological stimulus of heterois is in the components of nutrients uptake which plays role in hybrids.
