An experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of raised temperature on different stages of grain development. Temperature was raised upto 10 + 3°C above normal under field conditions with the help of alkathine Solar Energy Traps (SETs) fabricated around the plants. Effect of temperature on different nitrogen fertilization and irrigation conditions was also examined. High temperature increased grain size and decreased grain number during the first week after anthesis. Maximum damage to grain size was noticed during third and fourth weeks. The grain yield, however, suffered at all the stages. Nitrogen stress increased and unirrigated condition decreased the adverse effect on yield due to temperature at different stages of grain development. Effect of temperature on various yield components was also investigated.
