Abstract

An experiment was conduted with the sorghum variety PC-9 to study the effects of atrazine and 2,4-D on nitrate reductase activity, chlorophyll, protein content, growth and yield of sorghum. Both atrazine and 2,4-D resulted in increased nitrate reductase activity, chlorophyll content, protein content, growth and yield in sorghum. Combined, application of atrazine and 2,4-D resulted in maximum fodder (green and dry matter) yield. Herbicide application also resulted in enhanced N uptake by the crop which was several times more than the nitrogen saved by their weedicidal action.
