Abstract

Copper uptake and partitioning were investigated in mango (Mangifera indica L) trees. Copper concentration ranged from 8 ppm in the roots to 13 ppm in the flowers/fruits with an average of 10 ppm for the whole tree. A measure of comparability between the months, to avoid high variability due lo the tree size was sought to be established. The resultant patterns indicate transport of copper in appreciable magnitude between parts of the tree to meet intense demands. It was clearly established that the dependence on mere concentration of a nutrient element to assess the nutritional status of the tree would be erroneous. Nutrient quantities present were equally important.
