Physiological changes in healthy and aborted fruits of mango at various stages of growth

Changes in size, weight and physiological constituents were studied in fruits with aborted and normal embryo at different stages of growth in Dashehari mango. Fruits with aborted embryo was found to be invariably characterised with very poor growth in terms of size and weight. Redueing sugar, total soluble solids and catalase activity was significantly higher in fruits with aborted embryo while total acidity, ascorbic acid content and peroxidase activily was lowered considerably. The importance of embryo development for normal growth of fruit is discussed.
