Effect of CCC and FAP on water status and yield of sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) under simulated drought conditions

Abstract

Studies were conducted in sand culture conditions in screen house to determine the effect of 6-furfiiryl amino purine (6-FAP) and cycocel (CCC) on relative water content, water potential, osmotic potential, and yield components of sunflower Cv. EC 68415C under simulated drought conditions at vegetative, anthesis and achene-filling stages. Relative water content, leaf water potential and osmotic potential decreased when plants subjected to water stress conditions. Treatments with FAP and CCC increased RWC and ψw but decreased ψs and thus maintained positive turgor as compared to control plants. Water stress at anthesis was more detrimental than at vegetative and achene-filling stage. Achenes were bold and seed test weight was significantly higher in plants treated with CCC and FAP.
