Abstract

The influence of plant population on the production of high density (HD) grain was assessed with 3 yearly rice varieties (Rasi, Ratna and IET 8890) during dry and wet seasons under two nitrogen levels (50 and 100 kg N/ha). With increasing population ranging from 1 to 200 plant/m2, the leaf area index, grain yield and HD grain number increased significantly upto 50 hills/m2 and reached a plateau thereafter. The influence of N on HD grain was not significant. Among the two seasons, dry crop showed relatively better influence on the production of HD grain and grain yield.
