Twenty four genotypes of chickpea, selected from 600 genotypes on the basis of morpho-physiological characters were evaluated at Hisar. Character associations were estimated between twenty morpho-physiological characters, invariably poor associations were observed between thirteen morphological and seven physiological characters except leaf water potential and osmotic potential. Path analysis revealed that main character responsible for higher plant yield were biological yield and harvest index. Characters, number of branches per plant, number of effective and noneffective pods in fertile zone, leaf water potential and osmotic potential contributed to seed yield via more than one main character. Concomitant selection criterion based on these characters would be most effective. Physiological character and turgor potential looks to be the major component for evaluation of drought under irrigated chickpea.
