Abstract

An experiment was conducted with eighty seven barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) and eleven wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) genotypes to study the variability for nitrogen conversion efficiency (NCE) and its relatationship with nitrate reductase activity (NRA), grain yield and grain protein content. There was wide variability for NCE and other parameters studied, NCE was having high positive correlation with NRA, yield and grain protein. Significance of NCE in increasing grain yield with limited supply of N is discussed.
