Differential adaptability of 3 wheat cultivars to Mn deficiency was analysed in relation to root morphology and physiological parameters. The efficiency of HD 2009 to Mn deficiency appears to be due to increased root growth and a better partitioning of photosynthates to root resulting in higher Mn uptake. Absorbed Mn in the chloro-plasts resulted in suppression of peroxidase and increase in photosynthetic activity, leading to higher grain and straw yields.
