Lectin content of greengram and blackgram genotypes and its relation to nitrogenase activity

The lectin contents of 24 greengram (Vigna radiata L. Wilczek) and 26 blackgram (V. mungo L, Hepper) cultures were measured by hemagglutination technique. The hemagglutination titre of seed extracts ranged from 4 to 64. The mean titre of blackgram was higher than that of greengram. The titre for root extracts varied from 0 to 6. There was no significant relationship between hemagglutination titre and the nodule number per plant or nitrogenase activity.
