Abstract

On sandy loam soils of Karnataka, the flue cured tobacco leaf yield was mostly affected by the total rainfall during the crop growth period. Moisture stress at early growth stage did not affect the crop yield, whereas prolonged drought during mid-late growth stage alone or that followed by excessive rains affected the leaf quality adversely. Leaf expansion rate was positively associated with biomass and yield.
