Among twenty four genotypes of finger millet, nitrate reductase activity (NR) was high in HR 374, HA 91-B, MR 285, VR 550, PR 202 and PR 1044 during early stages of growth, the mean NR activity during later stages of growth was high in KM-1, PR 1044, PR 202 and TAH 65-6. The mean NR activity for the entire growth period was high in HR 374, PR 1044, KM 1 and VR 550. The nitrate flux (amount of nitrate delivered to the top per unit time) on 44tb and 60th day after sowing showed positive correlation with NR activity but no such relationship was observed with leaf reducing sugars.
