Mercuric chloride and lead acetate at 20, 50, 100, and 200 μ g/ml decreased seed germination percentage, seedling growth and protein contents of Zea mays Var. Co. 1. In general carbohydrate, free amino acids and carotenoid contents increased and RNA level decreased in seedlings treated with the above metals.
