Selection for high photosynthetic productivity and yield in rice

Photosynthetic rate of entire flag leaf (P_FL) expressed as product of flag leaf area (A_FL) and photosynthetic rate per unit area (Pn) rather than Pn per se showed high positive association (r=0.72**) with biomass and yield in early rice varieties. Selection for high PFL has been emphasised for isolating productive varieties in rice.
