The effect of some antitranspirant concentrations on some growth parameters and formation of galls on the young seedlings of Milicia excelsa were investigated in the rainy season when galling is known to be heavier. Three concentrations (0.1, 1 and 2% solutions) of Vapour gard, Wilt prof and spruce seal were used. There was gall formation on 3, to 4-month-old seedlings. Leaf gall formation was prevented by 0.1, 1 and 2% solutions of Vapour gard and Wilt pruf, and 0.1, 1% solutions of spruce seal. 2% solution of spruce seal was phytotoxic to two, three and four month-old seedlings. Initial application of 0.1% solutions of the three antitranspirants resulted in increase in dry weight of roots of 3-month-old seedlings. The dry weights of the leaves of 4-month-old seedlings increased when treated with 0.1% solutions of Wilt pruf and spruce seal.
