Significant genotypic differences were observed in water potential, osmotic potential and pressure potential in wheat genotypes. Gradual water stress in soil culture reduced these parameters. Differences in above parameters were significant with respect to genotypes and stage. Tolerant genotypes like C 306 and Wt 245 showed lower reduction in water potential and osmotic potential on account of water stress. Lesser reduction in osmotic potential on account of water stress can be a useful criteria for identifying drought tolerant genotypes.
