Abstract

The potential grain filling (net product comprising spikelet numbers and weight, kernal filling to its potential capacity) pattern was examined in the panicles of 7 pre-released and one traditional early duration rice (Oryza sativa L.) cultures. Better high density grain index was found among primary/mother tillers in comparison to tertiary/quarternary tillers in most of the cultures, IET-7564 and Rasi had higher index of 79.9 and 79.4%, respectively in primary/mother tillers while in tertiary/quarternary tillers IET-8344 and Rasi had high density grain. Potential yield calculations revealed that there would be a possibility of yield improvement through better grain filling.
