Abstract

Changes in the level of extractable free sugars and amino acids in root exudate and developing grain have been compared with the accumulation of starch and proteins in the developing grains of maize and soybean which differ, widely in accumulation and composition of reserve material. It appeared that the quantum of accumulation of storage products depened mainly on the pattern (s) of supply and utilization of their respective precursors in the grain.
