Abstract

Morphogenesis and growth studies on sugarcane callus of variety B.0.91 revealed that shoot buds can be induced from the callus by transferring it into a hormone-free modified MS medium. Callus induction and maintenance was achieved on the modified MS medium supplemented with 5 mg l−1 2, 4-D. Lower levels of 2,4-D showed occurence of organogenesis and embryogenesis together. 2,4-D at 5 mg l−1 also showed highest rate of dry matter biosynthesis per unit weight of callus.
