Phenolics induced changes in some biochemical parameters of mash bean (Vigna mungo (L.) Hepper) seeds

Abstract

Different phenolic compounds viz. salicylic acid (monophenol), resorcinol (diphenol and tannic acid (polyphenol), when applied exogenously on Vigna mungo plants at seedling and flower initiation stages (15 and 65 days after sowing respectively) enhanced free amino acids and soluble proteins in matures seeds indicating enhanced nutritional quality of these seeds. However, varied effects were observed in respect of soluble sugars and starch content in the seeds of phenolics treated plants.
