Experiments were conducted to find out the response of mungbean genotypes at early stage of growth to moisture stress. The results of the present study indicated that drought tolerant genotypes of mungbean (T 44 and 12/333) showed higher germination percentage than the susceptible ones (DHMM-116 and 11/395) at-10.0 bars moisture stress. The former recorded high protein content and peroxidase activity both in axis and cotyledon, while the latter had high percentage of amino acids in both cotyledons and in axis. It is suggested that genotypes with higher protein content and peroxidase activity both in axis and cotyledon and higher total sugar in axis at early stage of growth may be classified as drought tolerant genotypes of mungbean.
