Influence of cations on the growth of Atriplex amnicola

A study was conducted in solution culture in green house to investigate the influence of cations on growth stimulation of Atriplex amnicola. Plant sample after 20 days of exposing to various treatments, did not show any difference in growth inspite of significant differences in their ash, Na and K contents. However after 47 days of treatments, plants receiving NaCl alone or in combination with KCl in the nutrient solution showed better growth which was not merely due to high ash content, but actual increase in organic matter. Roots showed less response and retained most of the CI whereas Na and K were more translocated to the shoot. This growth stimulation is primarily because of Na.
