Light induced betacyanin synthesis in Amaranthus caudatus L. seedlings and its inhibition by GA3 has been studied in the presence of cycloheximide (CH). Exogenous addition of CH causes an enhancement in the synthesis of betacyanin induced by light. CH also prevents GA3 induced inhibition of betacyanin synthesis in light. The results presented indicate that both the enhancement of light induced betacyanin synthesis and the prevention of GAJ induced inhibition are due to the increased availability of the pigment precursor caused by CH.
