‘Gigas’ bread wheat crosses, Oligoculm x HD 2204 and Oligoculm x C-306 were assessed for productive potential and nitrogen utilization in pot culture under single staggered nitrogen application. Both the crosses were of moderate tillering types and nitrogen-responsive. Early N application produced maximum pre and post-an-thesis leaf area and biomass. Application of N at 25 days after germination resulted in maximum grain yield per plant but further delay reduced grain yield. It was concluded that tillering could be manageable by timing of N application. Oligoculm X HD 2204 produced higher grain yield per plant at all N applications. However, Oligoculm x C 306 appeared to have efficient translocation of assimilates.
