The effect of water stress on enzymes involved in ammonia assimilation and its recovery after the release of stress was srudied in the leaves of sunflower under pot culture condition. Water stress considerably affected the enzyme glutamine synthetase. The recovery after the release of stress was also significant. The glutamate dehydrogenase enzyme appeared to be stable as it was not much affected by water stress. The relative significance of the two enzymes are discussed.
