The effect of NaCl at 100 mM concentration (sub-lethal dose) on salinity susceptible (Ratna) and resistant (CSR-4) varieties of rice was studied on nucleases and phytase activities during early period of its germination. Phytase activity was inhibited significantly from the 4th day of germination with a concomittant decrease in inorganic phosphate level. Nuclease activity, on the other hand, was stimulated in the sensitive variety as compared to the resistant one.
