Abstract

The cation ratios viz. Na/K and Na/Ca+Mg were lower in variety Kharchia and higher in J-405 and Raj 1555. Kharchia accumulated higher content of proline while lower accumulation was observed in J-405. The osmotic pressure of leaf cell sap increased with the increase in salt concentration.

The concentration of individual cations, different cation ratios, proline and- osmotic pressure of leaf cell sap was found correlated with wheat yield. The Na/K ratio in dry-matter at tillering was negatively correlated with high degree of determination. This can be used as a criteria for judging salt tolerance in wheat varieties.
