Total dry matter (TDM) and nitrogen distribution as influenced by pbotoperiod was studied in potato (Solanum tuberosum L.). Long days (LI)) prolonged crop duration (150 days) while short days (SD) hastened maturity (90 days). The TDM and tuber yield were more under LD (16 hL + 8 bD) conditions while the dry matter partitioning into tubers was better under SD (8 hLand 16 hD) conditions. The leaf nitrate reductase activity was higher under LD conditions indicating greater assimilation of N. The total nitrogen accumulation in leaves, stems, roots and tubers was more under LD but the nitrogen partitioning into tubers was better under SD. The response of Kufri Bahar and Kufri Badshah to photoperiod was similar.
