Response of Vam and Azospirillum Inoculation to Water Status and Grain Yield in Wheat Under Water Stress Condition
Abstract
Wheat plants (HD2428) were grown in pots and inoculated either with Vesicular Arbuscular (VA) Mycorrhiza fungi (Glomus sps) or with Azospirillum hrasilense or both. At pre-anthesis stage, the moisture stress was imposed by withholding water supply for a beriod of 10days and then irrigated. The relative leaf water content (RLWC), leaf area, total grain chlorophyll and nitrate reductase activity (NRA) increased and the leaf ion leakage reduced significantly with combined inoculation of VAM and Azospirillum resulting in higher biomass production and grain yield under water stress condition.
