Differentiation of In Vitro Grown Explants of Chickpea (Cicer Arietinum L.)

Abstract

Three explants viz. shoot tip, cotyledonary node and hypototyl explants of 7 day old chickpea seedlings were grown in vitro in Murashige and Skoog medium supplemented with NAA and IBA 2mg/1 each. Of the three explants, shoot tip differentiated into multiple shoots with slight callus at base and bushy roots, cotyledonary node explants differentiated into plants and callus, and hypocotyl explants into callus only. It appears from the studies that differences in slow growth phase may be one of the physiological parameters that offer a clue whether a tissue differentiates or not.
