Seeds of 15 genotypes of pearl millet were assessed for the performance of hybrids and their parents under laboratory and field condition. Hybrid Pusa 23showed superiority for germination, root and shoot length, seedling vigour and field emergence, while HHB 67 showed the highest root-shoot ratio, dry weight per seedling and plant vigour. In general, mean values were more in hybrids than A, B and R lines for various characters. Germination (%) was positively associated with seedling vigour and field emergence; while the plant vigour was positively correlated with dry weight per seedling and seedling vigour.
