Abstract

The length change method was compared with pressure chamber method to determine leaf water potential and solute potential at zero turgor for the leaves of Brassica juncea (cv. Canadian Black). Measurements of leaf water potential made by length change method significantly correlated (r=0.98) with those of pressure chamber method. It indicates that the length change method can be effectively employed to determine water potential with great precision where the pressure chamber apparatus is not available. This method can also be used to determine relative water content at zero turgor and the bulk modulus of tissue wall elasticity.
