Seedling growth of sunflower and mung bean were inhibited at 0.8 and 0,4 percent NaCl, respectively. Pretreatment of seeds with LAB 150978, a triazole type plant growth retardant, additively retarded hypocotyl growth but the root growth was promoted over respective salinity treatment. Salinity induced decrease in chlorophyll, protein, free amino acid and soluble carbohydrate level was partially negated by pretreatment of retardant particularly in the sensitive variety of mung bean.
