Partially purified Oxalate oxidase (Oxalate: Oxygen Oxidoreductase, EC 1.2.3.4) activity, in leaves of 10-day old plants of grain sorghum hybrid CSH-5, showed maximum activity at pH 5.0 at 40°C. The rate of H2O2 formation was linear upto 5 min. The enzyme was inhibited by EDTA and diethyldithiocarbamate (DEDTC) but 2,2’ -dipyridyl had no effect. The inhibition by DEDTC was specifically reversed by Cu++. Flavins stimulated the enzyme in presence of Cu++ only. A possible physiological role of the enzyme during germination of grain sorghum is suggested.
