Saline soils supporting Salvadora persica showed variation in pH from 7.9 to 8.2 whereas salinity fluctuated between 9.39 to 54.37 dsm−1. Leaves and stems contained 93 to 161 mg. g−1 alkali soluble proteins and amounts of other proteins varied between 56 to 102 mg g−1. Alanine, asparagine, aspartic acid, glutamic acid, glutamine, methionine, phenylalanine, serine, threonine, tyrosine, and valine constituted the major fraction of free amino acids and accumulation of eleven amino acids was maximum in summer. Na+ Cl−, K+, Ca2+, and Mg2+ were principal inorganic constituents of leaves and stems.
